The British High Commissioner to Tanzania, H.E. Marrianne Young, has announced that the UK Embassy is set to host a celebration marking the establishment of a satellite diplomatic office at Tanzania’s capital city, Dodoma, in the near future.
She made the remarks during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. Samwel Shelukindo, in Dar es Salaam on June 23, 2025.
Ambassador Shelukindo welcomed the announcement and commended High Commissioner Young, stating that the move would encourage other nations to also establish embassies and diplomatic residences in Dodoma, in line with the government’s vision of transforming the city into the full administrative capital.
During their meeting, the two officials also discussed ongoing cooperation between Tanzania and the United Kingdom in the health sector. Commissioner Young emphasized the importance of finalizing the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will pave the way for collaborative research on various diseases, particularly in Dar es Salaam and Mwanza.
Both parties further underscored the importance of continued bilateral support in multilateral platforms, including backing each other’s candidates for positions in international organizations.
In conclusion, Ambassador Young praised the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her leadership in promoting agendas such as climate change mitigation and the adoption of clean energy. She reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Tanzania’s development goals and environmental efforts.
