A tragic accident in Tanzania claimed the lives of four people and injured seven others, with one in critical condition, when a truck carrying stones veered off the road and collided with pedestrians and a building.
The incident occurred at 5:40 AM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the junction of Mwanza–Bunda and Nyamuswa–Ukerewe roads in Bunda town.
Casualties Identified
The deceased include three men and one woman: Nyahiti Simon (32), Hekima Jackson (25), Nuru Abdul (40), and Alphonce Dengu (45), all residents of Bunda town. Among the injured are Baraka Bahati (19), Philipo Yusufu (36), Juma Maenzeka (23), Issa Mwita (31), Juma Nyagina (40), and John Ncheye (40), all also from Bunda.
Cause of the Accident
According to Agostino Magere, Acting Commander of the Fire and Rescue Service for the Mara Region, preliminary investigations suggest the truck’s brakes failed, causing it to lose control and strike a group of traders before crashing into a commercial building. “Initial findings indicate a mechanical failure led to the tragic events,” Magere stated.
Rescue and Emergency Response
Emergency services rushed to the scene to rescue the injured, who were immediately transported to the local hospital for treatment. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the full circumstances of the crash and evaluate potential safety lapses.
