Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has expressed her deep sorrow following the passing of Lawrence Nyasebwa Mafuru, the Executive Secretary of the National Planning Commission. Mafuru passed away on November 9, 2024, at Apollo Hospital in India.
In a statement issued shortly after the news broke, President Samia extended her heartfelt condolences to Mafuru’s family, the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Alexander Mkumbo, and all the staff at the National Planning Commission. She also expressed her sympathy to Mafuru’s friends and colleagues, acknowledging his invaluable contribution to the country.
“Mafuru will be remembered for his exemplary service, dedication, and creativity in various government positions. His efforts have had a lasting impact on the development of our nation,” President Samia remarked. “I pray that God grants his family strength and patience during this challenging time and that His soul rests in peace.”
