The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) has concluded a two-day training for police commanders from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. The training focused on enhancing understanding of electoral processes and human rights ahead of the 2025 local government and general elections.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ramadhani Kingai, highlighted that this training is timely, aiming to build the capacity of police commanders in managing peace and stability while respecting citizens’ fundamental rights.

He emphasized that the police force has a duty to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens as outlined in the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, which guarantees every citizen the right to vote, express opinions, and participate in elections without fear of harassment, threats, or violence.
