The Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), has announced a comprehensive strategy aimed at removing street children and beggars from urban areas across the country.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance child protection and reduce cases of abuse and violence against vulnerable children.

The announcement was made during the annual meeting of social welfare officers, where Deputy Minister of Finance, Hamad Hassan Chande, emphasized the persistent challenge posed by children living and working on the streets. He urged stakeholders, including social welfare officers and development partners, to focus on creating sustainable solutions to address the root causes of this issue, such as poverty and neglect.

Key aspects of the plan involve strengthening social welfare services at the regional and district levels, ensuring that children in vulnerable conditions, such as those living with disabilities or coming from impoverished families, receive the necessary support.

This effort aligns with the government’s long-term goal of providing a safer environment for all children and addressing the various forms of violence, exploitation, and discrimination they face.

As part of the strategy, welfare officers are tasked with identifying and delivering services to neglected children, those living with disabilities, and children living under the care of elderly guardians without the means to provide adequate support.
