Some women in Lutale Ward, located in Magu District, Mwanza Region, have been accused by their husbands of being the source of conflicts in their marriages.
These claims were made during a public meeting organized by Mwanza Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Wilbroad Mutafungwa, as part of his ongoing tour to visit islands and areas along the shores of Lake Victoria. The purpose of the tour is to provide education on water safety, listen to complaints and challenges, and receive advice from the residents.
“When you take action against a wrongdoing committed by your wife, she runs to the police station, and then the police arrest you and take legal action. But women are the source of problems in marriages,” said Mzee Mali Msoga.
Speaking to the residents of Lutale Ward, Commander Mutafungwa emphasized that the responsibility to prevent crime lies with all citizens. Therefore, every citizen should cooperate with the police force in preventing criminal activities.

“More importantly, we must avoid acts of violence against women, children, and men as well. For those of you living along the shores of Lake Victoria, as you continue with your activities, the police force advises that wealth comes from hard work and not through witchcraft. Witchcraft is just a way to bring poverty upon oneself,” said Commander Mutafungwa.
Additionally, Commander Mutafungwa urged fishermen and residents to ensure their safety when using boats in their marine activities by wearing life-saving equipment to prevent avoidable deaths in case of accidents on the lake.
On her part, Police Corporal Stella Lyimo from the Gender and Children’s Desk urged the community to stop sharing images of children who have been subjected to violence, as doing so ruins and diminishes their dreams.
Instead of spreading images of children who have been abused, Corporal Stella urged the residents to report such cases to the police so that legal action can be taken against the perpetrators.
