Vision 2050 Prioritizes Industrial Growth

Investment in industrial development is a strategic priority for Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050. This vision aims to enhance local production capacity and reduce dependency on imported goods, according to Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, the Planning and Investment State Minister in the President’s Office.

Speaking at a high-level industrial dialogue on Tanzania Vision 2025 in Dar Es Salaam, Prof. Mkumbo underscored the importance of industrial support in shaping the nation’s future. He emphasized that prosperous countries are distinguished by robust industrial sectors and that Tanzania cannot advance by relying on imports.

Prof. Mkumbo also highlighted the launching of the President’s Manufacturer of the Year Award (PMAYA), organized by the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI). This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering industrial growth and recognizing outstanding contributions to the sector.

The vision document, currently in development, involves a 22-member committee tasked with collecting and analyzing public views to build a national consensus. The committee comprises members from academia, civil society, the private sector, and the government, ensuring a participatory drafting process. This inclusivity aims to reflect the challenges, opportunities, and aspirations of all Tanzanians

Economic experts have stressed the need for the new vision to focus on accelerating gains and opening up new economic opportunities. They advocate for prioritizing industrialization, maintaining a good business environment, and leveraging natural resources responsibly.
