By training Tanzanian doctors and nurses, the Chinese medical teams have ensured the sustainability of quality healthcare services even after their departure.

This approach aligns with the Chinese philosophy of “teaching people how to fish” rather than just “giving them fish,” ensuring local medical staff can continue to provide high standards of care independently.

Throughout their tenure, the Chinese medical teams have been pivotal during crises. For instance, during the Ebola outbreak in Africa in 2014, the Chinese medical team in Guinea played a crucial role in virus prevention and control, training over 1,600 public health workers, which was instrumental in controlling the epidemic. Similar contributions have been seen in Tanzania, where Chinese doctors have provided vital medical assistance during emergencies like the Zanzibar ferry disaster in 2011

The continued presence of Chinese medical teams in Tanzania has strengthened bilateral ties between the two nations. The Chinese medical personnel have become a symbol of the enduring friendship and cooperation between China and Tanzania, consistently earning the respect and gratitude of the Tanzanian people and government

Current batch of the Chinese medical team continues its mission, the focus remains on enhancing the local healthcare infrastructure and capacity. This collaboration is expected to evolve, incorporating advanced technologies such as remote diagnostics to further improve healthcare delivery in Tanzania.
