Tanzania has heralded the registration of 9,061 groundbreaking environmental projects, valued at a staggering 37.55 trillion Tanzanian Shillings.

This ambitious initiative, unveiled by Dr. Selemani Jafo, the Union and Environment state minister, underscores Tanzania’s commitment to combatting climate change through innovative carbon trading endeavors.

Addressing the National Assembly during the Finance Bill 2024/25 debate, Dr. Jafo extolled the pivotal role of these projects in fortifying Tanzania’s ecological preservation efforts. Notably, 50 of the registered projects are specifically tailored for carbon trading, an increasingly pivotal sector in global climate change mitigation strategies.

The Tanganyika District in the Katavi Region has already reaped significant benefits, receiving 14 billion Tanzanian Shillings for community-centric conservation initiatives. This financial injection aims to bolster local environmental stewardship while fostering sustainable development practices.

Moreover, Tanzania has documented 1,340 energy projects aimed at advancing access to clean cooking energy, a critical step in curbing deforestation and indoor air pollution. These initiatives underscore Tanzania’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development across vital sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and energy.
