ACT Wazalendo has filed 51 cases challenging the outcomes of the recent Local Government Elections in Tanzania.
The party has already secured a victory in one case in Kigoma region, with several other cases still in progress.
In a statement to the press at the Magistrate’s Court on February 10, 2025, the former leader of ACT Wazalendo, Zitto Kabwe, accused the government of deliberately creating unnecessary delays in the legal process. He expressed concerns about baseless objections being raised to prevent the cases from being heard properly. Kabwe described these objections as “unusual” and claimed they were designed to prevent justice from taking its course.
ACT Wazalendo’s legal action comes after widespread allegations of irregularities and unfair practices during the local elections. The party argues that many voters were denied a fair election process, and it is determined to challenge the results to ensure that the people’s voices are heard and respected.
Kabwe stated that the government’s attempts to interfere with the cases show a disregard for the rule of law and citizens’ rights. He made it clear that the party will continue pushing forward in the courts, hoping for a fair resolution that will restore confidence in the electoral system.
