The village of Ikondo, located in Ikondo Ward, is now able to access first-class healthcare services following the government’s allocation of TSh 500 million for the construction of three buildings at the Ikondo Health Center.

Speaking on October 4, 2024, to residents of Ikondo Ward after inaugurating the health center, Prof. Mkenda stated that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has directed the construction of health centers across the country to bring healthcare services closer to the people.

He added that when Tanzania gained independence, there were no regional hospitals, but after 60 years of independence, there are now regional hospitals in all regions across the country. Additionally, health centers are being constructed in various wards nationwide.

“I want Tanzanians to recognize these achievements and be proud. If someone asks you what has been done, tell them we have built regional hospitals, schools, health centers, roads, and many other things. And if there are any challenges, they will be addressed,” the Minister added.

Furthermore, he said that every council has a district-level hospital, and services that previously required traveling abroad are now available within the country.

Resident Medical Officer Charles Kehogo said that the health center has eliminated the burden on residents who used to travel long distances to access healthcare services, especially pregnant women who had to travel more than 36 kilometers.

He added that the center is well-equipped and meets the needs of the growing population in Ikondo Ward, enhancing health and community welfare, and it has the capacity to serve over 6,134 people.
