U.S. President Donald Trump has suspended plans to impose 50% tariffs on Canadian imports, easing immediate trade tensions between the United States and Canada.

The decision comes amid ongoing discussions between Washington and Ottawa over trade, economic cooperation and bilateral relations.

Trump has repeatedly argued that tariffs are necessary to protect American industries and address trade imbalances. Canada, meanwhile, has warned that broad tariffs could disrupt supply chains, increase costs for businesses and consumers, and negatively affect economic growth on both sides of the border.

The suspension is expected to provide temporary relief for Canadian exporters and businesses that depend heavily on access to the U.S. market.

The United States and Canada share one of the world’s largest trading relationships, with billions of dollars in goods and services exchanged between the two countries each year.

The latest move could create room for further negotiations as both governments seek to resolve outstanding trade disputes while protecting their respective economic interests.
