Tanzania’s President Makes Crucial Call for Unity and Peace

She called on all citizens and institutions to listen to one another, heal the wounded and build a stronger future together.
November 4, 2025

President Samia Suluhu Hassan of the United Republic of Tanzania urged all citizens to promote love and unity, respect the law and safeguard peace   instead of resorting to protests, violence or disruption.

Speaking shortly after her inauguration in Dodoma, she emphasized that while the electoral process has concluded, the greater challenge lies in how the country moves forward together. She stated that true democracy is not merely measured by the vote, but by how the nation treats its people and institutions after the ballots have been cast.

She cautioned that demonstrations and acts of destruction do not benefit the nation; rather they cause pain, deepen divisions and hinder progress. Her appeal to Tanzanians was heartfelt: choose wisdom over anger, patience over bitterness, unity over division, and love over hatred.

President Suluhu Hassan reiterated that Tanzania is one nation, and no individual or group is above the collective. She called on all citizens and institutions to listen to one another, heal the wounded and build a stronger future together.

In her speech, she also thanked religious leaders from different faiths for championing peace and harmony during, before and after the election. She further ordered all social and economic activities to resume their normal course, assuring the public of their safety and security.

The call comes in the wake of the general election held on 29 October 2025, which was marked by exclusion of key opposition figures, widespread unrest and serious questions about the credibility of the process.

Going forward, her message signals a turning point: national unity and the rule of law will be central pillars of her administration’s agenda. Now, the burden lies with all Tanzanians to turn those aspirations into reality  by working together in peace, respect and shared purpose.
