Tanzania’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the official results of the country’s presidential election, set for October 29, will be declared within 72 hours after polls close — a move aimed at ensuring transparency and timely communication to the public.

According to the commission, results for parliamentary and councillor seats will be announced at the constituency level immediately after vote counting and verification are completed. INEC emphasized that all election procedures will follow the country’s electoral laws and reflect internationally recognized standards for fairness and credibility.

The announcement has drawn attention across the nation as voters prepare to head to the polls in what is expected to be a highly competitive election. The general election will see millions of Tanzanians casting their ballots to choose the next president, members of parliament, and local government representatives. In a public statement issued in Dar es Salaam, INEC officials assured citizens that all systems have been strengthened to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process. The commission added that measures are in place to prevent logistical delays, safeguard ballot materials, and guarantee that counting and transmission of results are done transparently.

INEC’s decision to announce presidential results within three days of the vote has been viewed as part of its commitment to building public trust in the electoral system.

Over the years, delays in result announcements have sometimes fueled speculation and tension. By setting a clear timeline, the commission hopes to reduce uncertainty and enhance confidence among voters and candidates alike.

Analysts note that the 2025 elections will serve as a key test of Tanzania’s democratic maturity and institutional independence. The process will also be closely monitored by regional observers from the African Union and international partners to ensure that the elections meet global democratic standards.

Civil society groups have also urged voters to remain calm and patient as the counting process unfolds. They have called on political parties to respect the rule of law and to use legal channels to address any disputes that may arise after results are declared.
