As Tanzania approaches its general elections scheduled for October 29, 2025, the political atmosphere is heating up.

The official campaign period begins on August 28, and political parties are intensifying their preparations to reach voters across the country.

The ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has already raised approximately 56.31 billion Tanzanian shillings during its campaign launch, demonstrating strong financial support. CCM aims to continue mobilizing resources through contributions from both members and supporters.

Opposition parties are also moving quickly to engage citizens. The Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT Wazalendo) has concluded its introductory tour in Zanzibar, with presidential candidates Luhaga Mpina and Othman Masoud declaring their readiness for the 60-day campaign period. Meanwhile, the main opposition party, Chadema, has faced disqualification from contesting due to non-compliance with electoral regulations.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered over 37 million voters for the 2025 elections, marking an increase of more than 26 percent compared to the 2020 elections. Eight new constituencies have also been added, bringing the total number to 272.

The political environment remains dynamic as parties prepare for campaigning. CCM has officially endorsed Samia Suluhu Hassan and Hussein Ali Mwinyi as the Union and Zanzibar presidential candidates, respectively. The public is encouraged to verify their voter registration status and actively participate in the electoral process to ensure a fair and transparent vote.

As the campaign period unfolds, attention will focus on how political parties engage with voters, the key issues dominating the discourse, and the overall integrity of the elections. Tanzanians are set to play a central role in shaping the country’s future through active participation and informed decision-making.
