Tanzanian President Officially Submits Re-election Nomination

On August 9, 2025, the Chairperson of the ruling party and current President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, officially submitted her nomination papers to the National Electoral Commission (INEC)

in Dodoma, signaling her intent to seek a second term in office ahead of the October general elections.

Accompanied by her running mate, Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi, President Samia handed over the nomination forms to INEC’s Chairperson, Judge (Appeals) Jacobs Mwambegele. This formal step confirms her candidacy as the presidential flag bearer for the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.

Residents of Chamwino District, located in the Dodoma Region, showed strong support for their fellow citizen and party leader. Many gathered to wish her success and offered prayers as she made her way to the electoral commission’s offices, reflecting the deep connection between the leader and her home community.

Speaking during her journey to INEC on Saturday morning, President Samia expressed heartfelt gratitude to Tanzanians for their unwavering support. “I sincerely thank the people for standing by me at every step of this journey. I humbly ask for your continued trust to serve you once again,” she said.

Her nomination marks a pivotal moment in Tanzania’s democratic process. With the October 2025 general elections approaching, candidates from various parties are gearing up to engage voters nationwide, making this period critical for shaping the country’s future.

This step underscores the robust electoral framework in Tanzania, where the National Electoral Commission oversees the democratic process, ensuring free and fair elections.
