Tanzanians living in Belgium and Luxembourg have publicly applauded President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership, describing her as a driving force behind the country’s development and continued peace.
The praise was delivered during a warm and engaging meeting with Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, at the official residence of the Tanzanian Ambassador in Brussels.
The gathering brought together members of the Tanzanian diaspora, who used the opportunity not just to connect with the Minister, but also to express their appreciation for the President’s progress-driven agenda. Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Riziki Thomas, Chair of the Tanzanians in Belgium, and Mr. Mrisha Sarazya, Chair of those in Luxembourg, shared heartfelt messages highlighting their satisfaction with the pace and direction of development projects back home.
“Your Excellency, we are here in large numbers not just to welcome you, but to send a message of gratitude to President Samia,” said Mr. Thomas. “Even though we are far from home, we see her work. The Standard Gauge Railway, the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project — these are not just headlines to us, they are signs of a country moving forward. We are proud.”
Mr. Mrisha echoed those sentiments, adding that the diaspora community is ready to contribute to the country’s growth — through investment, business partnerships, and community development efforts. “We’re committed to being part of Tanzania’s success story,” he said. “That includes paying our taxes, creating jobs, and sharing skills wherever possible.”

Minister Kombo, visibly moved by the enthusiasm and patriotism on display, thanked the diaspora for their continued support. He emphasized the government’s recognition of the diaspora’s critical role in national development, and invited them to register through the Digital Diaspora Hub platform. The system, he explained, will help improve service delivery and allow the government to grant the diaspora a special legal status.
“The support you’ve shown today reflects a deep love for your country,” Kombo said. “It’s this kind of unity and pride that strengthens Tanzania’s place in the world.”
The Minister is on a three-day working visit to Belgium, where he is also meeting with leaders of the European Union and key financial institutions to explore development cooperation and partnerships.
