Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Engineer Yahya Samamba, welcomed a delegation from the U.S. Government through its embassy in the country and held a brief introductory meeting where the delegation explained their purpose of visiting the Ministry.
Speaking at the brief meeting held today, July 16, 2024, Engineer Samamba outlined the Ministry’s plan to update its Strategic Plan to meet its mission of developing critical minerals.
He emphasized the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the U.S. in the development of these minerals and expressed the Ministry’s willingness to exchange fundamental information to facilitate this cooperation.
“After this meeting, you will have the opportunity to meet with our institutions, GST, STAMICO, and the Mining Commission, who will provide presentations to help you obtain essential information. Also, STAMICO has areas they would like to develop in partnership, so you will hear a lot from them,” said Engineer Samamba.

Evan McGlaughlin, Planning Manager of the Department of Energy and Minerals Resources from the U.S. Embassy, stated that the U.S. aims to collaborate with Tanzania in several areas, including improving the strategy for developing strategic minerals, cooperation in geoscience issues, and capacity building for local experts.
He also thanked the Ministry for receiving the delegation and connecting them with its institutions, which will enable the establishment of a partnership following nearly a year of discussions.
It is noteworthy that Tanzania is well-prepared in the development of strategic minerals, particularly through Vision 2030: Minerals are Life & Wealth, at a time when there is high global demand for these minerals.
Strategic minerals are used to manufacture various technological products, including electric vehicle batteries, phone batteries, and heat shields. These minerals include graphite, nickel, lithium, manganese, cobalt, and others that Tanzania is blessed with.
