Tanzania and Türkiye have strengthened their health cooperation through a specialised medical camp being conducted at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) in Dodoma, bringing together specialist doctors from the two countries to provide advanced medical services to patients.
The medical camp, which began on August 30, 2026, was coordinated by the Embassy of Tanzania in Ankara in collaboration with Türkiye’s Can Veren Eller organisation and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). The programme is currently ongoing at BMH.
The initiative has brought specialist doctors from Türkiye with expertise in several medical fields, including urology, neurosurgery, gastrointestinal diseases and spinal conditions.
During the camp, patients at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital have received specialised examinations and undergone major minimally invasive surgeries involving the digestive and urinary systems.
According to the organisers, the procedures have been successfully conducted through collaboration between specialists from Benjamin Mkapa Hospital and their Turkish counterparts. The cooperation has also enabled the medical teams to carry out major minimally invasive procedures in areas that are being performed at the hospital for the first time.

Beyond direct treatment, the medical camp is providing an important platform for knowledge transfer, professional development and the exchange of medical experience between Tanzanian and Turkish specialists.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to strengthening the capacity of local health professionals while supporting the continued improvement of specialised healthcare services available to Tanzanian citizens.
The medical mission forms part of the Tanzanian Embassy’s broader strategy to strengthen health diplomacy between Tanzania and Türkiye, creating opportunities for both countries to benefit from expanded cooperation in the health sector.
The areas of cooperation include specialised medical expertise, treatment, medical equipment and technology.
The initiative underscores the growing importance of international partnerships in strengthening healthcare systems, particularly through the sharing of specialised knowledge and technology and by expanding access to advanced medical services.
As the camp continues, the cooperation between the two countries is expected to further enhance professional collaboration and contribute to the delivery of quality and specialised healthcare services in Tanzania.
