Tanzania Strengthens National Nutrition Initiatives

These efforts aim to educate them on maintaining a portion of their harvest for household consumption rather than selling everything, thereby promoting better family nutrition and long-term food security.
September 29, 2025

Tanzania is making notable progress in addressing national nutrition challenges, with the government emphasizing the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in the sector.

Dr. Germana Leyna, Executive Director of the Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre, urged all actors involved in nutrition to continue supporting strategies aimed at improving dietary standards and public health.

Speaking on September 29, 2025, during an exclusive interview on the popular program Jambo Tanzania, aired by the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), Dr. Leyna highlighted the strides the country has made in recent years. She noted that the government has implemented a series of well-structured policies and campaigns to ensure that communities are better informed about the importance of proper nutrition.

“The government has consistently prioritized public education to enhance awareness on nutrition and healthy eating. We encourage all stakeholders to join forces and work collectively to address persistent challenges in this sector,” Dr. Leyna stated.

She further explained that special attention is being given to reaching producers, especially farmers, during their farming activities. These efforts aim to educate them on maintaining a portion of their harvest for household consumption rather than selling everything, thereby promoting better family nutrition and long-term food security.

The remarks come ahead of the upcoming 11th National Nutrition Stakeholders’ Forum, a gathering that will provide a platform for assessing ongoing initiatives, exchanging best practices, and identifying new strategies to ensure improved nutrition outcomes across Tanzania. Dr. Leyna emphasized that continued engagement and cooperation among all parties—government agencies, civil society, and the private sector—remain essential to sustain progress.

With these measures, Tanzania hopes to not only strengthen public awareness but also ensure that nutrition interventions reach every corner of the country, contributing to the creation of a healthier and more productive population.
