November 12, 2025

The National Assembly of Tanzania is set to hold a crucial sitting tomorrow, 13 November 2025, to confirm the appointment of the country’s new Prime Minister and to conduct the election and swearing-in of the Deputy Speaker.

The announcement was made by Speaker Mussa Azzan Zungu on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, as he adjourned the second sitting of the ongoing parliamentary session in Dodoma. Zungu underscored the importance of full attendance by all lawmakers, noting that the session’s agenda carries immense national significance.

“Tomorrow’s proceedings are vital for the nation’s governance. Every Member of Parliament must be present,” he said, stressing the importance of unity and responsibility as the 13th Parliament embarks on its first major assignment.

This session marks a defining moment in Tanzania’s political calendar, coming just days after the official swearing-in of the country’s newly elected President. Under Article 51(1) of the Constitution of Tanzania, the President has the authority to appoint a Prime Minister, who must also be a sitting Member of Parliament. The nominee’s appointment becomes official only after being confirmed by the National Assembly.

The ongoing parliamentary meeting began on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, with the election of Speaker Zungu and the swearing-in of newly elected MPs, marking the formal commencement of the 13th Parliament. The confirmation of the Prime Minister and the election of a Deputy Speaker will be the next major steps in forming the new government.

Observers note that tomorrow’s session will not only shape the structure of the executive branch but also set the tone for how the new administration will collaborate with Parliament in addressing key national priorities, including economic reforms, governance transparency, and public service delivery.

Speaker Zungu’s call for discipline and full participation among MPs reflects growing expectations for a Parliament that leads with integrity and dedication. The confirmation process, according to analysts, will be a test of unity among legislators and a demonstration of Tanzania’s maturing democratic institutions.
