Tanga Police Arrest Suspect in Tragic Arson Attack

Police in Tanga have arrested Mwita Yoba Chacha, the man suspected of starting the fire that claimed the lives of a mother and her three children in Manga Village, Handeni District, on December 30, 2024.

The tragic incident, which shocked the local community, led to the deaths of Pili Saguge and her three children when their home was set alight, trapping them inside. The police confirmed that Chacha, who had been on the run since the attack, was apprehended in Mwanza.

Tanga Regional Police Commander Almachius Mchunguzi explained that the suspect’s actions were allegedly driven by personal grievances. He is accused of setting the fire after claiming that Saguge’s family had poisoned his child.

“The suspect was hiding in Mwanza, and after a thorough search, we were able to locate him. He is now in custody, and legal action is underway,” Mchunguzi said.

The loss has devastated the village, with many residents expressing disbelief over the senseless violence. Friends and neighbors of the family have spoken out, offering their condolences and calling for justice.
