The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has directed the Road Fund to immediately repair all new roads as soon as they encounter defects. The repairs should include repainting to restore the roads’ aesthetic appeal.

President Mwinyi made these remarks during the inauguration of a 6.5-kilometer road connecting the Airport in West B District to Mnazi Mmoja in Urban District, located in the Urban West Region. The road has been named “Airport – K/Samaki.”

Additionally, Dr. Mwinyi urged the public to refrain from misusing pedestrian paths contrary to the government’s intended purpose. He emphasized that such misuse is a violation of road use regulations.

The President also called on authorities overseeing road reserves to continue educating citizens against constructing structures too close to road reserves. This would spare the government from the heavy burden of paying compensation when expanding roads or installing public infrastructure, including communication services.

In another development, Dr. Mwinyi approved a request from residents of Tumbatu Island in the North Unguja Region to install streetlights along the first road being constructed on the island through government efforts.

Furthermore, the President instructed that all newly constructed roads must have streetlights installed to enhance the city’s aesthetic and match the quality of the roads.
