During a one-day visit to Corsica, Pope Francis delivered a message urging Catholic clergy to maintain a strong focus on their spiritual responsibilities and to avoid engaging in political activities.

Speaking on the French Mediterranean island, the Pope addressed a gathering of religious leaders, emphasizing the potential for political involvement to cause division within the Church and society.

In his remarks, Pope Francis warned against what he described as “spiritual distractions” that could lead to unnecessary conflicts and undermining of the Church’s mission. “Pastors of the Church must remain vigilant, using discernment and care in their actions,” he stated. He called on clergy to prioritize unity and compassion in their service, particularly in a world increasingly affected by social and political polarization.

While acknowledging the Church’s responsibility to advocate for justice and peace, he stressed that political partisanship can compromise the moral and spiritual authority of the clergy. He encouraged them to serve as unifiers and healers rather than contributors to division.

This visit, which marks one of Pope Francis’ final trips abroad this year, highlights his broader mission to strengthen the Church’s role as a spiritual guide amidst global challenges. His message of peace, neutrality, and commitment to spiritual leadership continues to resonate, offering guidance for clergy and laypeople alike as they navigate the complexities of modern society.
