Transport officials have welcomed the operation, noting that it simplifies the identification of criminal activities and enhances security in day-to-day transport services.

Authorities in Tabora have confiscated more than 50 motorcycles with fake registration plates, citing concerns over their use in criminal activities that threaten both public safety and property.

The seized vehicles have been handed over to the Tanzania Police Force for further investigation.

Mr. Mrisho Shime, Chairman of Transport Officers in the region, explained that altered registration numbers have long hindered law enforcement from tracing suspects involved in theft and other crimes. “Motorcycles with fraudulent plates make it difficult to follow criminal networks. This operation will continue until the practice is fully curtailed and public safety is assured,” he said.

Transport officials have welcomed the operation, noting that it simplifies the identification of criminal activities and enhances security in day-to-day transport services. They emphasized that curbing the circulation of such motorcycles is crucial to reducing crime in urban and rural areas alike.

Regional Police Commander, SACP Richard Abwao, confirmed the seizures and called on citizens to assist authorities by reporting suspicious vehicles and individuals involved in motorcycle theft. “Community cooperation is essential. When citizens share information about criminal activities, we can act swiftly and prevent further incidents,” Abwao said.

Criminal analysts warn that motorcycles with fake plates often play a central role in urban crime, including theft, smuggling, and other unlawful activities. Experts note that sustained efforts, like the ongoing Tabora operation, not only disrupt criminal networks but also build confidence among residents in local transportation safety.

Authorities have pledged to continue regular inspections and patrols to prevent motorcycles with fraudulent plates from operating freely. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles to the police to maintain order and enhance security throughout the region.
