Makamba, the Foreign Minister, emphasized the necessity for Nordic countries to invest in the youth of Africa during his address at the Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers Meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark. He stressed the significance of collaboration between Nordic countries and Africa, urging the exploration of existing opportunities to benefit Africa’s substantial youth population, which surpasses that of Europe.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the manifold challenges confronting African youth, including the migration to Europe driven by a dearth of opportunities and numerous hurdles. Makamba underscored that a sustainable remedy to these issues lies in investing in Africa’s youth, enabling them to foster their development and livelihoods within their homeland.

Moreover, Makamba underscored the potential advantages for Nordic countries in investing in African youth. He cautioned against prospective migration challenges and encouraged youth to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills for their countries’ development. He further emphasized the contributions these young individuals could make to the development of Nordic countries through the skills they acquire.

The call for investment in African youth garnered support from other African leaders in attendance at the meeting. These leaders urged Nordic countries to invest in Africa to mitigate the export of raw materials from the continent, which are often returned as finished goods at elevated prices, thereby undermining local producers.
These leaders emphasized the importance of fostering mutually beneficial relationships that promote the growth and development of both regions. They also stressed the necessity of upholding agreed-upon positions without compromise for certain countries.
Hence, the collective call by Makamba and other African leaders sought to advance sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation between Nordic countries and Africa. Such cooperation aims to facilitate investment in African youth and bolster economic development across both regions.
