Muhimbili-Mloganzila Hospital Focuses on Specialised Healthcare Services

The Muhimbili-Mloganzila National Hospital will continue to focus on establishing new specialized services in the country to reduce the cost and inconvenience for citizens seeking such services abroad.

The statement was made by the Assistant Director of Surgical Services, Dr. Godlove Mfuko, during a professional conference organized in collaboration between MNH-Mlogazila and HCG Hospitals from India, with the aim of building capacity among specialists in liver transplantation surgery.

Dr. Mfuko added that due to the investments made by the Government in the country, which has resulted to significant changes in healthcare services, it is the responsibility of Mloganzila to provide services that are not available in the country and to strengthen existing services by continuing to build capacity among professionals.

“After the investments made by the Government, as professionals, our duty is to dedicate ourselves and think about how the National Hospital contributes to establishing specialized services, including liver transplantation, in the country, and it is achievable,” Dr. Mfuko added.

Dr. Basant Mahadevappa, a specialized surgeon in liver transplantation from HGC Hospitals, Also stated that liver transplantation surgery requires essential preparations, including capacity building for professionals from various fields.

Liver transplantation surgery services are provided in two African countries, Egypt and South Africa. If the Muhimbili-Mloganzila National Hospital initiates this service, it will be beneficial for Tanzanians and other African countries, thereby promoting medical tourism in the country.

John Samweli, a resident of Kawe, expressed his joy, stating that his niece has been suffering from kidney problems. He is delighted because the introduction of this service will greatly help in treating the patient

Anna Omary, a resident of Mwananyamala, stated that this service will not only provide healthcare but also help the country generate foreign revenue. She believes that people from distant countries will come to receive this service, contributing to the country’s income.
