The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, officially inaugurated a twin teachers’ house at Lubonde Secondary School, located in Lubonde Ward, Ludewa District, Njombe Region. The project, which aims to improve the living conditions of teachers and the overall learning environment, was funded by the Tanzanian government under the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP).
During the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Mkenda emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing education infrastructure across the country. He acknowledged the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose administration has prioritized improving teachers’ welfare as a crucial step toward achieving better academic outcomes. “President Samia has a clear vision of uplifting the teaching profession by ensuring that teachers have better living conditions, which will, in turn, boost their morale and dedication to their work,” Mkenda said.
He added that improving the learning environment has been one of the government’s key strategies. This involves constructing additional schools, expanding classroom facilities, and providing essential teaching materials. Furthermore, the government has made significant investments in both technical and general education to equip students with a range of skills, preparing them for the dynamic job market. Special attention has been given to the construction and upgrading of technical and non-technical secondary schools to diversify educational offerings.
Lubonde Secondary School headmaster, Willy Chaula, expressed his gratitude to the government for the timely support. He revealed that the TZS 100 million allocated for the teachers’ house has been efficiently used, leaving a surplus of TZS 2 million, which will be directed toward other school projects. Chaula pointed out that prior to the completion of the house, many teachers faced challenges living far from the school, which affected their ability to respond promptly to school-related issues.
The headmaster also highlighted the positive impact the new housing facility will have on student safety and academic performance. “Now that the teachers are closer, we have enhanced security for our students, and it is easier to maintain discipline and monitor academic activities. This will significantly contribute to improving the overall quality of education at Lubonde Secondary School,” he explained.
