Newly leaked documents have raised alarms about growing military ties between Russia and China, revealing agreements that could enhance Beijing’s ability to conduct operations against Taiwan.

The files, analyzed by the British defense think tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), appear to show Moscow supplying China with advanced equipment, specialized training, and logistical support for potential airborne and amphibious operations.

The documents—over 800 pages—were initially obtained and partially released online by the hacktivist group Black Moon. They include contracts, equipment lists, and records of meetings between Chinese and Russian officials in Moscow. According to RUSI analysts, the papers appear authentic, although some sections may have been redacted or altered, leaving certain details unverified.

Among the items listed are high-altitude parachute systems, airborne assault vehicles, and specialized attack vehicles capable of both land and sea operations. The materials also reference training programs for Chinese personnel in the operation of these systems, as well as broader military coordination, suggesting Russia is not only supplying hardware but also expertise.

While there is no public evidence that China has yet paid for or received any of this equipment, analysts warn that the agreement signals Beijing’s ongoing preparation for possible military action against Taiwan. Under President Xi Jinping, China has accelerated modernization of its armed forces, aiming to achieve a “world-class” military by 2050. U.S. officials have indicated that Xi has directed the military to be ready for potential operations regarding Taiwan by 2027.

The implications of this military cooperation extend beyond the immediate region. Enhanced Chinese capabilities could shift the balance of power in the Taiwan Strait, raising tensions in East Asia and prompting a reassessment of regional security strategies by the United States and its allies.

RUSI’s report emphasizes that even if the transfers are not fully implemented, the collaboration itself—both in planning and development—demonstrates a deepening military relationship between Moscow and Beijing. Observers stress that monitoring these developments is critical for anticipating future regional security challenges and preparing appropriate diplomatic responses.
