Info. Services Dept.In Mainland And Zanzibar To Enhance Cooperation

The Director of the Information Services Department (Maelezo) and Chief Government Spokesperson, Mr. Thobias Makoba, has announced a renewed commitment to strengthen collaboration between the Information Services Departments of Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

This initiative aims to improve communication efficiency between the Government and citizens across the Union.

Mr. Makoba made this announcement on October 25, 2024, in Unguja, Zanzibar, following a visit to the offices of the Information Services Department (Maelezo) Zanzibar, where he met with Acting Director Ms. Asha Juma Khamis.

“These two departments are crucial in coordinating communication between the Government and the public. Enhancing collaboration is essential for effective information management nationwide and for facilitating government-public interactions,” stated Mr. Makoba.

He emphasized that the partnership will focus on various areas, including information sharing, employee capacity-building, and training in modern technologies and communication channels. These initiatives are designed to ensure that the departments operate professionally, especially amid rising misinformation driven by advancements in information and communication technology.

Additionally, Mr. Makoba and Ms. Khamis discussed preparations for the upcoming Government Information and Public Relations Officers’ Workshop, scheduled for March 2025, which will involve officials from both the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.

In her remarks, Ms. Khamis expressed her appreciation for the visit, underscoring that the cooperation between the departments reflects their dedication to serving both governments and the citizens effectively.

“We are very pleased with Mr. Makoba’s visit, as it marks his first since his appointment in June. This meeting has invigorated our motivation to strengthen our collaboration,” Ms. Khamis remarked.

The two departments have a long-standing tradition of working together in the information sector, representing the Government in implementing policies, plans, and various development projects.

They also engage in experience-sharing visits, training, and participate in workshops organized by both departments.
