The Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Hon. Rosemary Senyamule, has urged officials in the region, especially at the local and village levels, to enforce the local laws they have established, particularly by holding accountable those who start fires without permission.

Hon. Senyamule made these remarks today, October 8, 2024, during the launch of the fire safety campaign in the Dodoma Region.

She acknowledged that there are villages and neighborhoods that have enacted laws to hold individuals accountable for starting fires without seeking permission, aiming to preserve natural vegetation and prevent fire disasters.

Additionally, Hon. Senyamule reminded various institutions to implement fire disaster precautions in their buildings to avoid fire incidents that can lead to significant losses for the government.

On his part, the Regional Fire and Rescue Commander for Dodoma, Mr. Rehema Menda, reported that from January to September of this year, they received 2,013 fire calls, resulting in 16 injuries and 9 fatalities. They also handled 86 rescue calls, which included marine and road rescues, with a total of 36 casualties from these incidents.
