The government is in the process of finalizing regulations following amendments to the Public Procurement Act by the National Assembly, aimed at safeguarding local contractors.

Finance Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, stated that the government is completing the formulation of regulations to enhance the efficiency of local contractors.

Dr. Nchemba made these remarks in response to a supplementary question from Dorothy Kilave, the Member of Parliament for Temeke. The MP sought clarification from the government regarding delays in payments to local contractors.

The MP inquired about the government’s efforts to address the issue, as delays often stem from non-payment to foreign contractors who then subcontract local contractors.

She requested the government to outline the payment procedures for local contractors to ensure timely payments and uninterrupted operations.

Dr. Mwigulu assured that the government is taking all necessary measures to ensure prompt payment to local contractors and emphasized that the implementation of new regulations will aid in resolving this issue.
