The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing a dire Mpox outbreak, with the Ministry of Health reporting 35 additional deaths, pushing the total fatalities to over 600 since the beginning of the year.

This alarming increase establishes the DRC as the focal point of the current Mpox epidemic.

According to a recent report presented by Dr. Roger Kamba, the Minister of Public Health, there have been 1,372 newly suspected cases and 206 confirmed cases of Mpox. The cumulative death toll now stands at 610, surpassing last year’s total of 600 deaths.

The outbreak has affected nearly all of the DRC’s 26 provinces, with the total number of suspected cases reaching 17,801. The widespread nature of the disease highlights the urgent need for enhanced public health responses and international aid.

Dr. Kamba’s report underscores the seriousness of the situation, revealing that Mpox has spread extensively throughout the country. This unprecedented level of transmission calls for immediate and effective measures to control the outbreak and support affected communities.
