The Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Khatibu Kazungu, visited various ongoing electricity generation and transmission projects in Dar es Salaam, as part of his efforts to assess the implementation and progress of these initiatives.
During the visit, Dr. Kazungu toured several power stations across the city to ensure their proper functioning, stressing the importance of maintaining a steady and reliable electricity supply throughout Tanzania.
His inspection included the gas-powered electricity plants at Ubungo I, II, and III, which play a crucial role in the country’s power generation.
Dr. Kazungu also reviewed the construction progress of the power transmission line that stretches from Kimara to Ubungo, Mabibo, and Ilala. This transmission line is a vital infrastructure project aimed at improving electricity distribution across the Dar es Salaam region.

Further, Dr. Kazungu visited the Mabibo substation, where construction is ongoing, and took note of the developments. His tour also took him to the Kinyerezi I, II, and Kinyerezi I Extension substations, where he checked on the installation progress of a 175MVA transformer, which is expected to boost capacity and reliability at the site.
In addition, he visited the Gongo la Mboto and Mbagala substations, inspecting the installation of 120MVA transformers at both locations. These upgrades are essential for meeting the growing electricity demand in the region.
Dr. Kazungu’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to improving the energy sector and ensuring the continued availability of electricity to support Tanzania’s economic growth and development.
