Regional Commissioners in the country have been directed to carry out an operation to arrest unlicensed traditional and alternative medicine practitioners involved in misleading divinations that contribute to acts of cruelty against people with albinism.

This directive was issued by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Youth, Employment, and People with Disabilities, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, on July 9, 2024, in Kagera Region during the launch of a campaign against violence towards people with albinism, which carried the slogan, “I Stand with Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan Against Violence Towards People with Albinism.”

Furthermore, Hon. Ndejembi urged the Regional Commissioners to ensure they conduct anti-violence campaigns against people with albinism in all municipalities and strengthen committees for people with disabilities in their areas, as required by Law No. 19 of 2010 on People with Disabilities.
