The Dar Es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) has angered Amos Makalla, the Secretary of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) NEC for Ideology, Propaganda, and Training.

Citizens who paid money to be connected to water by the authority have not received the service for a long time.

Makalla said he received complaints about the distribution of materials to citizens who paid for water, but after hearing about it, he will visit to ensure they start distributing them.

He emphasized that he does not want to see a repeat of what happened last week until they are pushed by the Minister of Water, Jumaa Aweso, and the changes he has made are implemented.

Makalla said that while inspecting the water tank project of Mshikamano in the Ubungo district, as part of his ongoing visit to Dar es Salaam.

At the water project, Makalla said when they informed President Samia about the region’s water history, its availability was 90% and she ordered it to be translated so that those on the outskirts of the city know they are also part of the region.

He said when President Samia provided COVID-19 funds, they were also allocated to this project so that citizens could access water.

“The directive from CCM is to ensure citizens have access to water. The work you have left to do to provide water in Kibamba Constituency is in Msumi.

“You’ve mentioned drilling three boreholes and have a long-term plan to build a tank; get it done quickly so citizens can get water.

“If you slack off, you won’t know if the pumps are working, if water is entering the tank, or if citizens are getting water; that’s a problem,” he said.

Makalla instructed that citizens paying to be connected to water should not be delayed; they should be served quickly.

Earlier, the Member of Parliament for Kibamba, Issa Mtemvu, said the area that has not received water in his constituency is the Msumi Ward in Mbezi.

The Chairman of CCM Ubungo District, Rogati Mbowe, said Minister Aweso has done “great wonders in Ubungo” and citizens are happy because they were previously being mistreated.
