Independent lawyer Boniface Mwabukusi has stated that when he received the news about being disqualified from contesting for the position of President of TLS (Tanganyika Law Society) and the appeals committee of the society, he could not believe that his fellow lawyers could commit such an injustice against him because it was clear to him that the decisions were unfair and did not follow legal principles, which is why the parties involved did not give him a chance to defend himself.

Lawyer Mwabukusi made these comments today, Friday, July 26, 2024, before journalists shortly after the High Court of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam branch, overturned the committee’s decision and reinstated Lawyer Mwabukusi to run for the position of President of TLS in the upcoming election expected to be held early next month.

He said that his belief is what motivated him to rush to court because he clearly believed that he was removed through coercion and that these actions greatly hindered him, although he believed that he would eventually get justice.

Lawyer Mwabukusi thanked the Court under Judge Butamo Kasuka Philip (Judge of the High Court, Dar es Salaam District Court) for expediting the case considering that under normal circumstances, it should have been done to align with the election date.

“I thank my lawyers for working day and night; I said from the first day that however it would turn out, the Court listened to us very quickly, taking into account the challenges and the time. We were promised to be heard at three o’clock today and we are all witnesses that when it was three o’clock, the judgment began to be read” – Lawyer Mwabukusi

In another development, Lawyer Mwabukusi stated that if elected to lead the society (Tanganyika Law Society – TLS), his leadership will be inclusive, adhering to the principles of law and good governance, and that he will always be at the forefront of safeguarding the interests of the society and its members so that they can fulfill their duties freely without interference from anyone or any institution within or outside TLS.
