The China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has teamed up with the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) to offer practical training programs aimed at preparing aspiring engineers for industry challenges. This collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications while enhancing Tanzania-China relations under the “Belt and Road” initiative.
During a visit to DIT, CCCC Deputy Manager Liyuliang Lee highlighted the importance of equipping young talent with practical skills. “We want to prepare these students for successful careers in engineering and construction. By offering this practical training, we’re confident they’ll have a lasting impact not only in Tanzania but beyond,” said Lee.
The program includes advanced construction training that introduces students to modern engineering techniques and state-of-the-art equipment. Site visits to large-scale projects, such as the Tanzania BRT Phase 4 Section 3 in Kivukoni, give participants a hands-on understanding of infrastructure development. Students also receive foundational knowledge in project management, safety protocols, and engineering standards while gaining exposure to international best practices.
DIT students who recently visited construction sites praised the experience, describing it as a valuable opportunity to apply classroom lessons in a real-world setting. “Seeing our classroom lessons come to life on such a massive scale was inspiring. It’s given me a better understanding of what’s possible in this career,” said one student.

Dr. Sosthenes Karugaba, head of DIT’s Industrial Relations Unit, lauded the program for its role in preparing students for professional success. “This type of training builds confidence and prepares students for real-world challenges. It’s a great example of how academia and industry can come together to create meaningful opportunities for young people,” he noted.
As part of this partnership, CCCC host the “Jiao Zhu China-Tanzania Road” Media Open Day on December 19, 2024. The event celebrate progress on the BRT Phase 4 project and commemorate 60 years of diplomatic ties between Tanzania and China.
The BRT initiative is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Dar es Salaam by improving urban mobility. This partnership between CCCC and DIT not only addresses immediate infrastructure needs but also invests in the next generation of Tanzanian engineers, fostering a future of innovation and growth for the country.
