The long-standing friendship between Tanzania and China was once again celebrated this week, not through large-scale infrastructure projects, but in the classroom of a local primary school.
The China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), a major global infrastructure developer operating under the Belt and Road Initiative, donated learning materials and basic supplies to pupils at Msasani “A” Primary School in Dar es Salaam, reaffirming its commitment to community development.
For decades, Tanzania and China have maintained strong diplomatic and economic relations, dating back to the historic construction of the TAZARA Railway in the 1970s—a symbol of solidarity that still resonates today. While CCCC has made its mark in Tanzania by contributing to modern highways, ports, and rail projects, the company stressed that its mission goes beyond infrastructure.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr. Deng, the company’s Deputy Manager in Tanzania, explained that success should not only be measured in bridges and buildings but also in the positive impact on everyday lives.
“Dear children, I want you to know that challenges are only temporary. Just as Tanzania’s dry season eventually gives way to rains that restore life, your difficulties today will prepare you for a brighter tomorrow. Your dreams should never be hidden by life’s dust, because every dream deserves to be nurtured with kindness and support,” he said.

He further emphasized that CCCC hopes to serve as a “bridge of love” between the people of China and Tanzania, strengthening the cultural and social fabric that underpins bilateral ties.
The package delivered to Msasani “A” Primary School was designed to address both academic and social needs of the students. Among the items were:
- School bags decorated with vibrant designs,
- Textbooks, notebooks, pens, and other learning materials,
- Sports gear, including a football,
- Food supplies such as rice, flour, and cooking oil to enhance children’s nutrition.
Mr. Deng described the donation as part of the “Silk Road Spirit,” a philosophy of solidarity, cooperation, and shared prosperity promoted under the Belt and Road Initiative. He assured parents, teachers, and pupils that CCCC would remain a steadfast partner not only in construction but also in nurturing the next generation through education.
The Head Teacher of Msasani “A,” Mr. Edward Mollel, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, noting that it showed how international partnerships can have a real impact at the community level.
“The unity between China and Tanzania has grown into a true bond of brotherhood. Their support to children, especially those with special needs, has been remarkable. We pray they never tire of standing with us, because their contribution is invaluable to our nation,” he said.
The Chairperson of the Parents’ Committee, Mr. Anya Nyirenda, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that CCCC’s support transcends its image as a construction giant.
“CCCC is not just about building roads; they are true partners in social development. Their compassion for children through education and social support makes them invaluable to our community. We sincerely hope they will continue with this spirit of generosity,” she noted.
The donation event at Msasani “A” was more than just a charitable activity; it served as a reminder of the enduring partnership between Tanzania and China. From infrastructure milestones like the TAZARA Railway to present-day projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, China’s role in Tanzania’s development has evolved into a multifaceted relationship that touches on education, culture, and community empowerment.
For the children, the event left behind more than school supplies—it left hope, encouragement, and the reassurance that their dreams matter. For the broader community, it stood as proof that cooperation between nations can be felt not just in mega-projects, but also in the everyday lives of families and young learners.
As Tanzania continues to invest in its education system, partnerships like these highlight the importance of collective responsibility in shaping a brighter future. And with companies like CCCC stepping in to bridge the gap, the spirit of Tanzania–China friendship is set to remain alive for generations to come.
