A bus crash survivor, Ahmad Ally, has died after being involved in a second road accident while being transferred for specialised treatment to Muhimbili National Hospital, authorities have confirmed.

Ally, believed to have been aged between 40 and 50, was among victims injured in the Maning Nice bus crash that occurred at around 6am on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the Mavuji area of Kilwa District in Lindi Region. The first accident claimed the lives of two people, including an 18-month-old child, and left several others seriously injured.

Medical officials said Ally was initially rushed to a local health facility for emergency care before doctors recommended that he be referred to Dar es Salaam for advanced treatment due to the severity of his injuries. However, while being transported, the referral vehicle was involved in another crash before reaching the city.

He died at approximately 1am on Sunday, February 8, 2026, following the second accident.

The Medical Officer in Charge of Kilwa Kinyonga District Hospital, Dr Reornad Lucas, said the hospital received Ally’s body in the early hours of Sunday together with two other injured patients who survived the second crash.

“We received the deceased’s body at about 1am. Two other injured patients were brought in at the same time,” Dr Lucas said in a telephone interview. “They were given immediate medical attention and later referred to Sokoine Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment, while the body of the deceased was preserved at our facility.”

Dr Lucas noted that the emergency team acted quickly to stabilise the survivors before arranging the referral to the regional hospital, citing the need for more specialised services and monitoring.

Meanwhile, the Medical Officer in Charge of Lindi Regional Referral Hospital, Dr Alexander Makalla, confirmed the deceased’s identity as Ahmad Ally and said he had been officially listed among survivors of the earlier Maning Nice bus crash before the fatal referral accident occurred.

Dr Makalla said Ally was being transported under medical recommendation for advanced care at Muhimbili National Hospital when the second incident happened. He described the development as a tragic turn in an already deadly road accident.

Road safety authorities in the region have not yet released full details on the cause of the second crash, but investigations are understood to be underway. The twin incidents have renewed concern over emergency transport safety and long-distance medical referrals for critically injured patients.
