Tanzania is considering the adoption of artificial intelligence in its e-government platforms as the country strives to upgrade the national digital data pool and related e-services.

George Simbachawene, the minister of Public Service and Good Governance, said the switch was prompted by inefficient delivery of services by public servants. He blamed the indifference among government employees for delays and substandard execution of tasks.

“Physical delivery of services in public institutions and government agencies continues to be a challenge due to the prevalent lackadaisical attitude among many workers. This often results in delays and substandard execution of tasks,” pointed out the minister.

The government aims to link all its institutions to the e-government system, as a way to also curb corruption and deal with delays.

The digitization of government services may lead to threats, including breaches of data privacy. However, AI can provide solutions for securing data and detecting threats.
