The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has urged its Research, Planning and Investment (PRI) Department to accelerate the implementation of strategic plans and projects, with a strong focus on technology, local expertise and adherence to project timelines and contractual obligations.
The call was made by TANESCO Geita Regional Manager, Engineer Jahulula Jahulula, who represented the Director of TANESCO Lake Zone, during the closing of a four-day PRI Forum held at Rock City in Mwanza.
Engineer Jahulula described the PRI Department as a key engine of TANESCO, noting that major electricity generation and transmission projects, research activities and investment plans largely originate from work undertaken by the department.
“Your department is the engine of TANESCO because planning for major electricity generation and transmission projects, research and investment begins with the work you undertake. Therefore, your success has a major role in taking TANESCO and the nation to greater heights,” Engineer Jahulula said.
He also commended PRI staff for their contribution to the implementation and completion of several strategic projects, including the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), which has an installed capacity of 2,115 megawatts.
Other projects highlighted included the Kishapu Solar Power Project, the construction of the electricity transmission line from Chalinze to Dodoma, and the signing of a contract for the construction of a 220-kilovolt transmission line from Mpomvu to the Geita Gold Mine (GGM).
Engineer Jahulula said TANESCO, through the PRI Department, is also advancing regional electricity transmission projects, including the Tanzania-Zambia Interconnector (TAZA).

Preparations are also continuing for the interconnection of Tanzania’s electricity system with those of Malawi, Mozambique, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, initiatives expected to strengthen regional power connectivity and cooperation.
He urged PRI employees to increase the pace of implementation while making greater use of modern technology and local professionals to improve efficiency and ensure projects are delivered according to agreed timelines and contractual requirements.
“Each one of us should now understand that the Corporation depends on you, and the country depends on you. Continue working hard with patriotism and integrity,” Engineer Jahulula said.
The PRI Forum brought together TANESCO officials and employees to review the department’s work, assess progress in strategic projects and discuss measures to improve planning, research, investment and project implementation.
