Israel has claimed that a series of overnight strikes targeted and killed senior figures within Iran’s security establishment, in a move that could significantly raise tensions between Israel and Iran.
Speaking after the reported operation, Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said the strikes were aimed at high-level security targets. He alleged that among those killed was Ali Larijani, a prominent figure linked to Iran’s national security structure. Katz also claimed that another senior official and a commander associated with Iran’s paramilitary forces were killed during the same operation.
One of the individuals identified was Gholamreza Soleimani, a figure connected to the Basij militia, which operates under Iran’s broader security framework. The Basij has often been described as playing a key role in both domestic security and regional influence.
Despite the strong claims from Israeli officials, there has been no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities.
