Samia, Mahama Hold Talks in Arusha

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, on March 2, 2025, held bilateral talks with the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, at the Arusha State House.

President Mahama arrived in the northern region of Arusha for an official working visit, during which he is scheduled to serve as the Guest of Honour at the opening of the new judicial year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

The visit also coincides with commemorative events marking 20 years since the establishment of the continental court in 2006. The African Court, headquartered in Arusha, plays a central role in promoting and protecting human rights across member states of the African Union.

The leaders’ discussions are understood to have focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Tanzania and Ghana, as well as advancing shared commitments to democracy, good governance and the rule of law within Africa.

President Mahama’s participation in the court’s annual opening session and anniversary celebrations highlights Ghana’s continued support for continental legal institutions and reinforces Tanzania’s position as host of key African Union bodies.
