Tanzania Announces Over Thousand Driving Jobs in Qatar

Labour experts say overseas employment programmes such as this one have become increasingly important for Tanzania as the country works to reduce youth unemployment while boosting household incomes through remittances.

The Tanzanian government has unveiled a major overseas employment opportunity, announcing more than 1,100 driving positions for qualified citizens to work in the State of Qatar as part of efforts to expand youth employment and labour mobility beyond national borders.

The vacancies, coordinated through the Prime Minister’s Office of Tanzania responsible for labour, employment, and youth development, are aimed at experienced professional drivers who meet specific academic and technical qualifications.

According to the official announcement, a total of 1,150 Tanzanians will be recruited under contractual employment arrangements in Qatar, where demand for skilled transport workers continues to grow due to large infrastructure projects and urban expansion.

Applicants are required to be between 25 and 50 years of age and must hold a valid Class C or E driving licence. In addition, candidates should have completed secondary education up to Form Four level and possess at least two years of practical driving experience.

Proficiency in the English language, both written and spoken, is considered essential, given Qatar’s multicultural work environment and safety regulations. Knowledge of Arabic will serve as an added advantage and may enhance a candidate’s chances of selection.

Officials explained that the jobs will be offered under Qatar’s labour laws, which provide a structured employment framework that includes health insurance coverage, accommodation, meals, and transportation. Successful applicants will also receive return air tickets upon completion of their contracts.

“These opportunities not only create jobs but also expose Tanzanian workers to international work standards and new skills,” said a labour analyst in Dar es Salaam. “When workers return home, they often bring valuable experience that strengthens the local workforce.”

The initiative is part of Tanzania’s broader labour export strategy, which seeks to place skilled citizens in international markets while ensuring their rights and welfare are protected through formal agreements and government oversight.

Applicants have been advised to submit their documents via the official government employment portal before the February 4, 2026 deadline. Authorities have stressed that all applications must go through the government system to prevent fraud and illegal recruitment practices.

Employment officials also urged job seekers to ensure that their licences, academic certificates, and identification documents are valid and properly certified before submission.

Qatar, one of the Gulf region’s fastest-growing economies, has in recent years attracted thousands of foreign workers across sectors such as construction, transport, hospitality, and logistics. The country’s continued investment in infrastructure has sustained strong demand for professional drivers.

Through this programme, Tanzania aims to strengthen bilateral labour cooperation while expanding opportunities for its growing workforce.

Observers note that if well managed, overseas employment initiatives can play a key role in reducing joblessness, easing economic pressure on families, and contributing to national development through skills transfer and remittances.
