United States President Donald Trump has delivered a strong warning to the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, criticizing the country’s use of force against protesters and reiterating that Tehran must not pursue nuclear weapons.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos in Switzerland, Trump said Iranian authorities have repeatedly resorted to excessive violence against civilians, including shooting demonstrators in public areas. He claimed that he personally intervened to prevent a planned mass execution, describing it as a grave humanitarian concern.
“On Thursday, they were planning to execute 837 people. I told them, ‘You cannot do this,’” Trump said. He urged the Iranian government to refrain from further repression of peaceful protests, adding, “I hope the authorities will not take any additional measures against demonstrators.”
On the issue of nuclear weapons, Trump reinforced his long-standing position that Iran must halt all nuclear development programs. He stressed that the United States is monitoring Tehran’s actions closely and is prepared to impose further measures, including sanctions, if Iran continues its nuclear ambitions.
“They cannot pursue nuclear weapons. They must stop all nuclear activities. We know what they are doing at every step,” Trump said, emphasizing the potential consequences if Iran fails to comply.
