Venezuela’s President, Nicolas Maduro, has accused the United States of attempting to interfere in the country’s internal affairs, claiming Washington seeks to exert control over Caracas.

Speaking to a public audience, Maduro stressed that any efforts aimed at toppling his government would ultimately fail, reinforcing his stance on national sovereignty and independence.

His remarks came a day after U.S. President Donald Trump announced sanctions targeting Venezuelan oil shipments, describing the country as being effectively under a U.S. military “containment.” These measures have significantly escalated tensions between the two nations, intensifying an already strained diplomatic relationship.

Maduro emphasized that Venezuela would resist all forms of external pressure, particularly sanctions aimed at crippling the nation’s economy. He highlighted the resilience of the Venezuelan people and insisted that attempts to destabilize the government would not succeed.

“The Venezuelan people will not allow foreign powers to dictate our future. Our government will continue to stand firm against any attempts at intervention or regime change,” said Maduro, appealing to national unity and patriotism.

The U.S. sanctions, which include restrictions on Venezuelan oil tankers and related financial transactions, are designed to limit revenue from the country’s critical oil industry. Economists warn that these measures could exacerbate Venezuela’s ongoing economic crisis, marked by high inflation, shortages of basic goods, and social unrest.

Observers also note that the confrontation between Caracas and Washington risks broader regional instability. Over the past several years, the U.S. has repeatedly criticized Venezuela’s governance and human rights record, contributing to a cycle of diplomatic and economic pressure.

Maduro framed the sanctions as part of a historical pattern of foreign powers seeking to control Latin American resources. He pledged that the government would continue managing Venezuela’s oil sector independently while exploring alternative markets and partnerships to mitigate the impact of U.S. restrictions.

The escalating tensions also raise concerns about the humanitarian impact on ordinary Venezuelan citizens, many of whom are already grappling with shortages, limited access to healthcare, and economic hardship. International organizations have urged both sides to seek dialogue and peaceful resolutions to prevent further deterioration of living conditions.
