Tanzania’s newly appointed Health Minister, [Mohamed Mchengerwa], officially took over office on November 19, 2025, following a formal handover from his predecessor, [Jenista Mhagama], at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Mtumba, Dodoma.
During the ceremony, Minister Mchengerwa praised Mhagama for her dedicated service across multiple government roles, particularly her contributions to improving Tanzania’s healthcare system. He highlighted her leadership in expanding access to health services, advancing universal health insurance, and tackling non-communicable diseases that impose heavy social and economic burdens on the country.
“Within the first 100 days, the President has committed to implementing transformative reforms in our health sector,” Mchengerwa said. “I am grateful for the strong foundations you have laid, including progress on universal health insurance and the fight against chronic illnesses affecting Tanzanian communities.”

The new minister emphasized the importance of collaboration and continuity. He assured that he will work closely with Mhagama and the ministry’s teams, noting that the [Ministry of Health (Tanzania)] remains a crucial pillar for national development and security.
Mchengerwa pledged to advance the vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, aligning the ministry’s work with the ruling party’s electoral manifesto and the broader National Development Vision 2050, which prioritizes health as a key driver of national growth. “We are committed to ensuring that all Tanzanians have access to quality health services, and we will build upon the achievements already made,” he stated.
The handover ceremony marked a moment of continuity and optimism, signaling a renewed focus on strengthening healthcare delivery, improving preventive services, and ensuring that Tanzania’s health sector meets the needs of its growing population.
