Tanzania’s Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced new retail price limits for petrol and diesel across mainland Tanzania, effective November 5, 2025. The move comes as authorities seek to stabilize fuel costs and ensure transparency in the petroleum sector.
According to EWURA, petrol prices will be set at TSh 2,752 per litre in Dar es Salaam, TSh 2,813 in Tanga, and TSh 2,844 at the port of Mtwara. Diesel will be capped at TSh 2,704 in Dar es Salaam, TSh 2,766 in Tanga, and TSh 2,797 in Mtwara.
Other regions will see slightly higher rates due to transportation costs. In Dodoma, petrol is priced at TSh 2,831 and diesel at TSh 2,783. Arusha residents will pay TSh 2,861 for petrol and TSh 2,814 for diesel, while in Mwanza, the rates are TSh 2,937 and TSh 2,890 respectively. Mbeya will see petrol at TSh 2,884 and diesel at TSh 2,837 per litre.
EWURA has warned all fuel retailers, both wholesale and retail, to strictly adhere to the announced caps, stressing that violations will result in legal action.

In addition, all fuel stations are required to prominently display prices on clear signage, including any promotions or commercial incentives, to help consumers make informed choices and foster healthy competition.
Retailers are also instructed to issue receipts through the Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) system, ensuring every customer receives proof of purchase that includes the station’s name, date, type of fuel purchased, and price per litre. EWURA emphasized that this measure aims to promote transparency and protect consumers.
The announcement comes at a time when Tanzania continues efforts to strengthen its petroleum sector under the Petroleum Act 2015, ensuring affordability, accountability, and proper regulation from importation to retail.
By standardizing fuel prices across regions, EWURA hopes to reduce confusion among consumers, promote fair competition, and ensure that Tanzanians have access to essential energy resources at regulated prices.
