President Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged Tanzanians to place national interests above personal or political agendas, emphasizing that peace and justice are crucial as the country prepares for the General Election scheduled for October 29.

Speaking at a Peace Symposium organized by the Tanzania Union of Imams (UMATA) under the theme “Our Peace, Our Future,” the President called on religious leaders, electoral stakeholders, and citizens to actively safeguard national unity. The event, held in Dar es Salaam, drew participants from across the country, highlighting the shared responsibility of preserving peace during the electoral period.

“Let us put our nation’s interests above personal or political agendas. Peace and justice are essential for the prosperity of our country,” President Samia said. “We must ensure that the upcoming elections reflect our commitment to democracy and national cohesion.”

Addressing concerns about potential disturbances during the elections, the President warned against internal and external attempts to undermine the country’s peace. She emphasized that a stable electoral environment is essential not only for credible election results but also for sustaining public trust in governance.

The President also highlighted the pivotal role of religious leaders in promoting dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful participation. By engaging communities and encouraging citizens to participate responsibly, these leaders can help prevent conflict and ensure that the democratic process proceeds smoothly.
